Cooking equipment

If you’re a cooking enthusiast, make sure that your kitchen is stocked with the most important pieces of cooking equipment. After all, the last thing you want is to be in the middle of a recipe, only to discover that you’re missing an essential piece of equipment!

The right cooking equipment will make cooking faster, easier, and more enjoyable. The following are types of cooking equipment that you’ll want to be sure you have on hand in your kitchen.

Timer

Having a timer is important. Using a timer will prevent your food from burning because it will alert you when it’s been in the oven for a certain length of time.

Mixing Bowls

Mixing bowls always come in handy. It’s a good idea to have at least a few stainless steel mixing bowls of various sizes, as well as microwave-safe bowls made of glass.

Instant Read Thermometer

An instant read thermometer is essential to have if you cook a lot of meat because it ensures that meat is cooked to a safe temperature.

Cookware

A non-stick, cast iron skillet is a piece of cooking equipment you should definitely have on hand because it can be used for searing and then be transferred to an oven to complete the cooking process. Furthermore, enamel-coated cast iron skillets allow even heat distribution and prevent your food from burning.

Other types of cookware you’ll want to stock your kitchen with include saucepans, a stock pot, a large sauté pan, a Dutch oven, and a roasting pan. Just be sure to buy only cookware of high quality because your food will inevitably spend a lot of time there.

Baking Equipment

Want to be ready for every holiday and birthday that comes around? Among your cooking equipment, make sure there’s plenty of baking equipment so you can make delicious cakes, cookies, brownies, and pies. Some must-have baking equipment include a flat baking sheet, round cake pan, springform pan, pastry brush, muffin pan, and flour sifter, to name a few.

Cutlery

No home cook can go without high quality cutlery. You probably won’t need an entire set of fancy cutlery, but having at least one high quality chef’s knife is a good idea. A chef’s knife made of high-carbon steel that is about eight inches long will most likely meet all of your slicing and dicing needs.

Measuring Cups and Spoons

Unless you’re a seasoned cook who doesn’t follow recipes, measuring cups and spoons are an essential piece of cooking equipment to have. They will come in handy when you try new recipes and need to use the exact measurements suggested. Fortunately, there are now adjustable measuring cups on the market, so you don’t have to purchase multiple measuring cups, which can take up a lot of space.

Appliances

Must-have cooking appliances include a toaster oven, blender, hand mixer, and coffee maker. These appliances make the cooking process more convenient and enjoyable. Other appliances that are not must-have cooking equipment but that could come in handy are a slow cooker, bread machine, and coffee grinder. Coffee grinders allow you to grind fresh beans and make the ultimate cup of joe; slow cookers are a convenient tool for busy, working people; and bread machines enable you to bake fresh, homemade bread without the fuss.
