Amish Sour Cream Cornbread

  • ¾ cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • 2 tablespoons shortening (melted)
Preparation Instructions


Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Grease an 8 in. square pan.


In a large bowl, mix together all the ingredients until just moistened. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

This recipe is good for appetite. I love the sour creme feeling.. this recipe is great! Healthy too, cornbread is my favorite and this recipe is awesome.. :)
